BREAK: TALK TO ME

My research started in a suburb in Belgium called ‘Amougies’ where I saw that the inhabitants reacted against the monochrome architecture by making it their own. They namely personalized their house with small details such as mailboxes. With this founding I went on with the aspect of adding an element to another one. An element can namely change the characteristics of another one.

I looked at how people use an object and transform hereby actually the use of the object itself. By using an object in a certain way, people make it their own. Out of this investigation I created multifunctional objects that give an answer to our needs. Since I looked at the most ordinary objects in our living room, the collection I created became an intervention of the room itself. With this collection I want to critique the ordinary objects and the way designers create them. We, as designers, should look at how people use an object and draw from there. This collection also lets you look differently at the ordinary objects we encounter every day. Without noticing we use these objects in other ways then they are made for. These thoughtless acts became the inspiration of the collection.

The collection uses only 3 organic and untreated materials namely wool, wood and leather and is therefore called WOODLE. This all to keep the collection simple and focused.

The collection is made inside the brand TALK TO ME. Since the collection is about the relation and communication between people and objects. I altered objects to create new and practical pieces. The functional accessories can be easily attached to any kind of object following a standard size. The accessory manipulates on object and changes therefore its function and use. The collection gives a new life to everyday objects. One object now has multiple functions.

The prototypes of the accessory elements speak for themselves because everyone can see from which thoughtless use of the object they come from.

The collection provides people with an accessory answering there use need. The accessories create an interaction with the user while creating an atmosphere and therefore a space on their own.
