The title for my graduation project came there due to many reasons. BREAK comes from: Breaking the line between two elements, One element breaks itself lose from the other one, A breakthrough, A pause, Mathematical: one opposite or divided by the other, Grammatical: the little sign between two words which separate them, Just a short catchy word.

Textured Surface

I decided to create an interactive surface/wall that consists of modular units and is used in the interior. It will create a 3D shape out of a 2D surface. The screen will explore the relationships between geometry, material and structure. This requires a dialogue between the design process and the fabrication process. The surface will also rethink how we use natural materials and explore the limits of materials and pattern creation. The goal is to make a textured surface which makes a space more tactile and creates a dramatic flowing space. For the materials I am thinking about using polycarbonate, wood(veneer), a fabric or using the strength of different materials by combining them. Ideally the resulting material should be sound-damping and insulating.

These are some guidelines which will lead me to the design. The screen should be:
Personal
Exists out of modular units
Create a pattern
Adjustable to your own preference (height – wide)
Interactive, moves
Different materials - colors - shapes
People can create it themselves
Chose the transparency
Self-supporting
Decorative
Sound-damping and insulating
